Power Her Up is a monthly session that aims to inspire, build a community, and be a safe space for women to learn and develop their entrepreneurial skills. We have guest speakers each month who are in the enterprise sphere, who can share their experiences as a founder or intrapreneur. Our goal each session is to be a place where friendships can be forged, laughs had, and the discovery of gifts you might not realize you possess. Excited to meet you, and power you up :)

Our speaker this month is Dorcas Apoore, a native of Ghana and a current MasterCard Scholar at the University of Edinburgh. She runs a social enterprise that has already equiped more than 200 people with income-generating skills including basket weaving and shea butter production. By unleasing the earning potential of people within communites that might otherwise struggle to find employment, this allows for them to feed and educate their children. In addition, she has reached over 2,000 young women with educational sessions on sexual and reproductive health, to address the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and early marriage. With her own means, Dorcas has also facilitated the return to school of nine drop-out students, some affected by early childbearing.

Dorcas’ commitment to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) led her to be selected as one of 16 Young Leaders from around the globe, to participate in the 2018 European Development Days (EDD) in Brussels. Along with the 15 other Young Leaders at EDD, Dorcas is helping to rewrite the traditional rules surrounding leadership.
